SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, SUPPORT THEIR FUTURE:

At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. The Y has been listening and responding to our communities’ most critical needs for 160 years. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being, welcoming and connecting diverse populations or advocating for healthier communities, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve. Across America, our staff and volunteers are kids, parents, grandparents, neighbors and local leaders who are all personally committed to understanding what our neighborhoods need. Together we can build stronger, more inclusive communities, provide support for families and promote positive change overall.

TESTIMONIAL:

Meet Rosa Maria Galvan, a parent at Highland Elementary School. Rosa has been involved with the Highland Elementary School/YMCA project for several years and participates in many activities at Highland School and the YMCA. Rosa and her children have been involved with many partnership activities including; Gym and Swim, Walking with the Mayor, Mission Nutrition, Conferences with parents, field trips, PTO meetings, Fall Fest, Bingo Night, Cooking Hot Dogs, and many more. Rosa was also part of the ESL and computer classes that were offered at Highland. Rosa continues to take ESL classes and her English is getting better and better.
 

Rosa does not miss any opportunity to help, she comes in to the school every single day and helps students improve their reading skills. She is always willing to help out as much as she can; she has done the school store, snacks, helping students with backpacks and many more. One thing that she comments is that she is glad the school serves fruit and vegetables everyday that the Y initiated. Her son has been eating a variety of vegetables and fruits, then comes home each day and tells his family about it. Rosa is a dedicated person who cares about other families and our community.
